Bio| (: yarn. At the moment, I'm in between high school and university - a strange limbo extended here in Singapore by two years of compulsory military service which I am currently serving, and made more painful by the fact that I have yet to secure a place in college. Nonetheless, I wanted to make the best of these two years - there is little else to do. After eight months of training I passed out as a infantry Specialist (a noncommissioned officer, essentially); in a surreal turn of events, I am now whiling the remaining three months or so away in the National Cadet Corps headquarters. I get to go home everyday and instead of fighting in jungles I do office work and take care of little student cadets. I think in time to come this might be one of my greatest regrets in my two years as a national serviceman. It strikes me as ironic that as I count down to my Operationally Ready Date (120310) I will be anything but operationally ready - far less ready than I was, fresh out of specialist school. Sometimes I miss the army. The past six years of schooling were spent at the Hwa Chong Institution. In these six years I have had both regrets and glory, and graduating is bittersweet for both reasons. There were a lot of good things about this school and there are still some good things about it, despite what some may claim. Every now and then I still wish I were in Taiwan, where I was born, for periods of time, because sometimes I want streets, not shopping malls; roadside stalls, not food courts; clouds, not construction sites; community, not crowds; soccer on the streets, not in a court. Sometimes I write poetry, debate and play soccer. I try my best, and recently I'm starting to feel that I'm getting somewhere. In an attempt to 'remember the source', so to speak, I am coaching Hwa Chong's high school debate team. These days I am obsessed with beauty, and vaguely interested in fashion and music: I listen to anything as long as it is fun or clever, and others besides. I like girls in jackets, and dresses, and cute shoes. In my spare time, I hang out with my friends, play Magic: the Gathering, tend to be lazy, enjoy bad jokes, and am an Arsenal fan. I found love at the beginning of 2007 and I am not letting go of her. |
